Consolidating Products Across Locations (New Experience)

Manage products across locations through consolidation

Consolidation is the process of taking products with the same name that exist at multiple locations as different products, and combining them into one product at multiple locations.

When should I consolidate?

Generally, when you are using multiple integrations in Thrive, you may have created your item catalog separately on each merchant account (Clover, Square, etc.).

Managing products with the same name together is easier than maintaining separate entries for each integration. Consolidation also resolves "duplicate SKU" errors that can occur when the same product exists at multiple locations.

After consolidation, You can manage product details, pricing, and inventory for a single product across all your locations from one product page in Thrive.

How the Consolidation Tool Matches Products

The consolidation tool automatically matches products across locations based on specific criteria.

Products Must Match These Requirements

Product name and categories must be identical: Products with the same name and the same categories will be matched by the consolidation system.

SKU and Barcode fields must be empty: Both the SKU field and Barcode field must be completely empty for consolidation to work. You may need to delete these values before starting the consolidation process.

Products must be simple products: Products with variants are NOT eligible for consolidation. Only simple products without variants can be consolidated. Bundles are also NOT eligible for consolidation.

What Information Is Retained After Consolidation

Location-specific pricing and inventory settings: Differences in price, cost, reorder point, and target are retained with location-specific entries. The product created first in Thrive retains this information in the Default section, while consolidated versions are added to their respective location-specific fields.

Product details from the original product version: The product that was created first in Thrive retains its product images, Vendors, shipping details, and information in the Notes field.

Tax rates by location: Different tax rates are retained at their respective locations.

What happens after consolidation?

After your products are consolidated, you can use Thrive to easily manage your product across your locations on the same screen.

We also recommend checking out our Consolidated Inventory Report, which gives you a combined view of your total inventory numbers across locations. Read more about it here!

How to Manually Consolidate Products with Variants

The automatic consolidation tool doesn't work for products with variants. If you need to consolidate variant products across locations, you'll need to do this manually, product by product.

Step 1: Choose which product version to keep Decide which version of the product will be your primary entry.

Step 2: Transfer information to the version you're keeping Copy over information from other versions, including:

  • Inventory counts

  • Categories

  • Vendor information

  • Any other relevant product details

Enable the product for the appropriate locations and integrations.

Step 3: Delete the duplicate versions Delete the product versions you no longer need after transferring their information.

Tips to Make Manual Consolidation Easier

Use a "DELETE" marker: Add "DELETE" to the product name of versions you plan to remove. This makes them easy to identify later.

Create a DELETE category or vendor: Assign products you're planning to delete to a temporary "DELETE" category or vendor. After consolidating information into the version you're keeping, you can bulk-delete all products in that category or vendor.

Search and filter for cleanup: Once you've finished consolidating, search for the keyword "DELETE" or filter by your DELETE category/vendor to find and bulk-delete all marked products at once.
