Thrive can automatically generate barcode numbers for your products in UPC-A format (12 digits). You can generate barcodes individually for specific products or in bulk for all products missing barcodes.
The barcode field in Thrive typically stores UPC (Universal Product Code) numbers, which are the barcode numbers printed on products by manufacturers. However, you can also generate valid barcodes when products don't have existing UPCs.
Read our guide on SKU VS. Barcode Numbers to understand the difference between barcodes and SKUs and when to use each.
Generate Barcodes for Individual Products
Go to the Products or Variants View and click on an existing product to edit it (or you can create a new product). Under the Identification Section you'll find the option to Generate Barcodes under the Actions Menu (โฎ).
Clicking Generate Barcodes will automatically fill any missing barcodes. You can also select specific variants first to generate barcodes only for those items.
If you click into Edit Mode, select the magic wand icon to generate Barcodes for specific variants!
Thrive automatically generates a unique 12-digit barcode for each selected item.
Additional Bulk Actions Available
After selecting some or all variants, you can also:
Copy SKU to the Barcode field
Copy Barcode to the SKU field
The latter two options are useful for when you want to same identifier in both fields.
Generate Barcodes In Bulk (Advanced task)
From the Settings tab > Advanced tab, you can generate a unique 12-digit barcode for all variants that don't currently have one, all at once.
Click the Generate barcodes for all products without barcodes task.
Printing Tags and Labels
Once you have the SKUs or barcodes added, you can choose whether you want your price tags/labels generated from the SKU or barcode field.
We'll create pre-formatted PDF files you can print.

Things to Note:
Each variant can only have one barcode assigned to it.
Barcodes can be the same for multiple variants, but SKUs must be unique.
Not every integration supports both SKUs and Barcodes. To check yours, click here.
Generated Barcodes will be the same string of numbers as generated SKUs.
Tags/Labels generated from the SKU field will not scan on the Shopify POS. Instead, use the Barcode field.
