Some jobs in Thrive are too big to finish while you wait — importing a catalog, pushing everything out to a sales channel, a bulk upload, a cost backfill. Thrive runs those in the background and lists them on one page, so you can see whether yours is queued, still going, finished or failed.
How to open it
Click your profile picture at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Tasks. The page is headed Server Tasks.
You can also get there from the Recent Activity list on your Home page: clicking an entry for a task you started opens this page, except that a bulk upload entry opens Bulk Uploads instead.
What you are looking at
The list has four columns:
Column | What it tells you |
Status | Queued, running, finished or failed. See below. |
Description | What kind of job it is. |
Progress | Whatever the job last reported — often a percentage or a step. A bulk upload shows Spreadsheet generated with the link to your sheet. If a job has nothing to report, a finished one reads Complete and anything else reads Unknown. |
Updated | When the job last reported anything. The list is newest first. |
Use the Filter button to narrow the list by status. The page shows up to 25 rows at a time — 5, 10, 15 or 25 — with a page control beneath for going further back.
The list only refreshes itself while the rows on screen include an unfinished task, about every thirty seconds. Once those rows have all finished it stops, so an old list stays on screen until you reload the page.
What each status means
Status | What it means |
Scheduled (yellow) | Queued. Thrive has accepted the job but it has not yet started. |
Running (green) | Task is actively being worked on. |
Complete (blue) | Finished. |
Error (red) | It stopped before finishing. |
Cancelation Requested / Canceled (gray) | Only our team can cancel a job — see below. |
Worth knowing: a big job splits itself into smaller pieces, and while the parent has finished but the pieces are still reporting, the row still shows Running; there is no separate "nearly there" status.
An older view of the same list
If you open an old bookmark or link to the Tasks page, you may land on an older view of the same list instead. It is headed Tasks, with a Recent Tasks tab, and it shows the same jobs with the same names. A few things differ:
The fourth column is called Updated at, and a bulk upload's Progress reads Spreadsheet generated: with the link.
Instead of the Filter button there is an All Tasks dropdown, which also offers Running Tasks, Scheduled Tasks, Completed Tasks, Erroring Tasks, Canceling Tasks and Canceled Tasks. It only appears once you have at least one task.
It shows only the 25 most recent tasks, with no page control. Its help panel still says 100; 25 is the number.
A job whose cancellation has been asked for still shows Running there, so the Canceling Tasks option will not find it.
What the task names mean
The Description column shows Thrive's own name for the job. The ones you are most likely to see:
Description | What it is |
Importing from integration into Thrive. | Your catalog being imported from a sales channel. When it finishes, the progress reads Import process complete. |
Importing units from integration into Thrive. | Your stock quantities being imported. |
Importing receipts from integration | Your sales being imported. |
Enable all inventory for Integration task | An export — switching all your products on at a sales channel so they can be sent out. |
Push un-synced Items task | The Push all un-synced products & variants task on Settings → Advanced. You may see a per-channel version, such as Push un-synced Items to Square task. |
Sync Item to Integration task | One product being sent out to your sales channels. |
Generate bulk upload spreadsheet task | Thrive building the sheet you asked for. The progress cell carries the link. |
Import bulk upload spreadsheet task | Thrive reading your filled-in sheet back in. |
Backfill receipts with missing costs task | The Backfill costs for prior sales task on Settings → Advanced. |
Others you may come across: Item and Variant consolidation task, Associate Tax Rates task, Bulk delete variants task, Activating all inactive items task, Bulk update product channels, Clone Location task, Delete Credential Task, Checking WooCommerce connectivity, Upgrade Shopify integration to multi-location inventory and Export feed task.
How long a job takes, and how much history you keep
There is no estimate. Thrive does not predict how long a job will run. How long one takes varies with the size of your catalog and how much other work is already queued; a large catalog can take several hours.
The page shows up to 25 tasks at a time. Use the page control to go further back.
A task is removed once its last update is more than 31 days old. A daily clean-up does this, so you cannot look back at last quarter's import here.
Two things this page will not do
You cannot cancel a job. There is no Cancel button on a customer account. Our team can cancel some catalog imports and some enable-all-products exports; a catalog import that runs in pages cannot be canceled at all. If a job is stuck, start a chat with us.
You will not see the small pieces. A long import is one row, not fifty. The pieces it splits into are hidden to keep the view from being cluttered.
Running two imports at once
Pressing Import twice for the same sales channel usually does not start a second import. As long as Thrive can still see the first one queued or running, it quietly attaches you to that one. You get no second job and no message saying so — which is why the page can look as though your click did nothing.
Only one catalog import from a sales channel (of the single-pass kind) or spreadsheet import can run at a time. Thrive keeps a one-at-a-time lock across your whole account for two kinds of job:
a catalog import from a sales channel whose import reads the whole catalog in one pass (channels that read the catalog in pages do not take the lock), and
importing a filled-in bulk upload spreadsheet.
If you start one of these while another is still running, the new one waits for the lock. If the lock is still held after about five seconds, the upload or import stops with this message:
Please wait for the previous import to finish before beginning another.
Let the other import finish, then start yours again.
Only the catalog step of a sales-channel import takes that lock. The cost, quantity, vendor and sales steps are read outside it.
