Tory is a chat helper inside Thrive. Ask it a question in plain words, and it looks up the answer in your own account: your products, stock, sales, purchase orders, invoices and stocktakes. It can also search the help center for you. When you need a person, it hands you to our Customer Success team.
Opt in or out of Tory
You won't see Tory until you opt in. Opting in shows Tory for your own login only. Each person on the account opts in for themselves, and you don't need to be an admin.
Open Marketplace from the left sidebar.
Under Built by Thrive, find the Tory AI Assistant card. It has a Beta badge.
Click the card, then click Opt In.
The card now shows Opted-In, and the Tory button appears.
To opt out, open the same card and click Opt Out.
Note: If you have turned on Hide AI Features, Tory is hidden and its card does not show in Marketplace. See How to opt out of AI.
Where to find Tory
Look for the round sparkle button in the bottom-right corner of any page. Point at it to see Ask Tory. You can drag the button up or down, or over to the left side. Tory remembers where you put it in that browser.
Click the button to open the chat panel on the right. On a wide screen it sits beside the page, so you can keep working. At the top of the panel you can start a new conversation, make the panel wider, or close it.
Type in the Type a message... box and press Enter. Press Shift+Enter for a new line. Some browsers also show a microphone button, so you can speak instead of type.
Everyone on the account who has opted in can use Tory. It answers from your account's data.
What you can ask
These questions work well. Swap in your own product, vendor or location names.
Inventory and stock
"What items are low in stock?"
"Show me reorder suggestions."
"What's my slow-moving inventory worth?"
"What items are out of stock at [location]?"
"Show me reorder suggestions for [vendor name]."
"What's the stock level for [product name]?"
"Which variants haven't sold in the last 90 days?"
"Show me inventory movements for [variant name or SKU]."
"When will [product] run out of stock based on current sales?" (This one uses stock forecasting, which not every account has.)
Catalog
"Which variants are missing a cost?"
"Help me write a product description for [product name or SKU]." Tory looks up the product and writes the text. You copy it into your product yourself.
"Search for [product name or SKU]."
"Show me full details for [product name]."
"Do I have any duplicate item names?"
"Which Shopify-linked variants have no images in Thrive?"
"Which variants don't have a vendor assigned?"
"How many items, variants, and bundles do I have?"
"What categories do I have and how many items are in each?"
If a list offers a download, ask for the whole list or a CSV file, and Tory adds a Download button. The file holds up to 5,000 rows.
Purchase orders and vendors
"Show me my open purchase orders."
"Show me overdue purchase orders."
"Who are my vendors, and what is the total value of my purchase orders with each?" This total counts every purchase order, including drafts and canceled ones. On a long vendor list, Tory may show only the first 20. Ask about one vendor by name to see its total.
"What's the contact info for [vendor name]?"
"Are there any overdue stock transfers?"
Sales and performance
"Which products have a profit margin below 50%?"
"Run a pricing health check." Tory can combine the checks for missing costs and low margins.
"What are my top-selling products over the last 30 days?"
"What are my best-performing categories over the last 7 days?"
"How do my sales over the last 7 days compare to the same 7 days last year?"
"Which location sells the most [product name]?"
"What's my weekly performance summary?" Tory can compare the last 7 days, ending today, with the same 7 days last year.
Tory counts back from today, so "last 7 days" means the seven days ending today.
Integration health
"Show me sync issues across all my integrations."
"Are there any sync issues with my Shopify integration?"
"Which variants aren't syncing to Square?"
Invoices and billing
"What invoices are outstanding?"
"Show me overdue invoices."
"What are the details for invoice #[number]?"
"What's my current Thrive plan?"
"Show me my past Thrive subscription invoices."
The last two need permission to see account and billing details. If Thrive bills you through a partner, Tory points you to them instead.
Kits and bundles
"What kits and bundles do I have?"
"What's inside the [kit or bundle name] bundle?"
"Which bundles use [variant name or SKU] as a part?"
"What does it cost to assemble [kit name]?" Tory shows the assembly cost if one is set, and lists the components.
Stocktakes
"What stocktakes are in progress right now?"
"When was the last stocktake at [location]?"
"Show me completed stocktakes."
"Which variants haven't been counted in over 180 days?"
How-to questions
"How do I create a purchase order?"
"What is a par level?"
"What's the difference between a kit and a bundle?"
For how-to questions, Tory reads the best help center article and links it in its answer, so you can read the full article.
What else Tory can do
Take you to a page
Ask to go somewhere, such as "Take me to purchase orders", or ask where to find something. Tory can then add a Take me to … button under its reply. It does not add one to every answer. Nothing happens until you click it. Tory can take you to most main pages, such as Products, Purchase Orders, Vendors, Stocktakes, Reports and Settings.
Set up a Stocktake for you
Ask Tory to set up a count. For example: "Set up a stocktake for everything at [location]." Tory tells you what it would count, then shows a Create draft stocktake (N SKUs) button.
Nothing is created until you click that button. The Stocktake is always saved as a draft. You then submit and finish it on the Stocktakes page as usual. Tory never counts bundles, products that don't track stock, or products not stocked at that location. If you named products or asked for a group, such as low-stock items, and some can't be counted, Tory tells you how many it left out and why.
When it works, you'll see "Created draft stocktake" with the name, and a Take me to it link. The Stocktake's history notes that it was made with Tory and names you as the person who made it.
You need permission to create Stocktakes, and access to that location. If the offer is more than 30 minutes old, you'll see "That stocktake proposal has expired. Ask Tory again." If something goes wrong while saving, you may see "Could not create the stocktake. Please try from the Stocktakes page."
Hand you to a person
If something looks broken, your numbers look wrong, or you ask for a person, Tory opens a chat with our Customer Success team and passes along a short summary. Usually it sends the summary for you. If it can't, the summary is placed in the message box for you to send. Either way, you don't need to type it all again. If the chat does not open automatically, start a chat with us.
If Tory can't answer a question, it can offer to send your question to us as feedback. If you say yes, it sends your question as you typed it. You won't get a reply, but we use it to improve Tory.
What Tory will not do
Change your data on its own. Tory reads your data. The only thing it can make is a draft Stocktake, and only after you click the button. It does not change products, stock, prices or purchase orders.
Finish a Stocktake. It cannot submit, approve, cancel or complete one.
Save the text it writes. You copy a description into your product yourself.
Move you to another page by itself. You click the button.
Tips for good answers
Name the thing you mean. Tory looks up exact products, vendors and locations.
Vague: "How's my stock?" Better: "What items are low in stock at [location]?"
Vague: "Any problems?" Better: "Show me sync issues across all my integrations."
Vague: "Reorder stuff." Better: "Show me reorder suggestions for [vendor name]."
A conversation holds up to 50 messages, and each message can be up to 8,000 characters. If you see "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again." more than once, click New conversation at the top of the panel and ask again.
Your data
Tory answers from your account's current data in Thrive. It looks the data up when you ask.
To write an answer, Tory uses your conversation so far, the results of what it looked up, today's date, and the page you are on. That means the page's address and title, and the name of any product or stocktake you have open.
Tory does not pick up where an old conversation left off. Closing the panel keeps your current conversation. Reloading the page or clicking New conversation starts fresh. Tory's download links stop working after 1 hour.
While Hide AI Features is on, the Tory button disappears and Tory refuses new requests. For the other AI features, see How to opt out of AI.
