The Product Description field is primarily used for online businesses. Product descriptions are factored into SEO (Search Engine Optimization), so keep in mind that this content is publicly available on connected e-commerce platforms like BigCommerce, Shopify, and WooCommerce.
Descriptions can also be used for internal notes. However, if you connect an e-commerce integration, the Product Description field will sync and push to the connected platform.
Formatting Options
You can format your product descriptions using:
Bold and italics
Bullet points and numbered lists
Links
These tools help make descriptions easier to read and more informative for customers.
Note for Shopify users only: If your product description looks different in Thrive than it does on your Shopify storefront, this is likely due to your Shopify theme. Thrive stores and syncs the raw HTML of your description, but your theme's styling controls how that HTML is rendered on your site — affecting things like bullet point spacing, font color, and list formatting. This cannot be adjusted from within Thrive.
Images
You can link additional product images in the description by pasting the image URL. Thrive does not host those images on our end but we reference the link in order to display the corresponding image.
Videos
Videos can also be linked. Just get the shareable URL. (For example, https://youtu.be/vNYl6ZdLRMM) Once that's pasted, Thrive will automatically embed it into the Product Description and send it out.
HTML
To enter HTML, use the "Source Code" editor at the far right of the options at the top of the Product Description.
Tables
Need to insert a table for some additional clarification for your product? We've got you covered there too. You can insert tables directly into the Product Description for additional product clarification or structured information.
Things to Note:
Product descriptions in Thrive can be disabled from syncing to Shopify. This allows you to manage product descriptions directly in Shopify instead. Simply edit this setting in the Settings>Locations & Integrations tab.
