Price change not reaching your POS or online store

You changed a price in Thrive, saved it, but your point of sale or e-commerce site still shows the old price.

You changed a price in Thrive, saved it, but your point of sale or e-commerce site still shows the old price.

A common cause is a second price sitting on that product for that one sales channel, which Thrive sends instead of the price you changed. This article shows you where that price can be found, how to clear it, and what to check if the price still does not move.

This page covers both versions of the Thrive catalog. Where the product screens differ, the step is written twice — once for the Old Experience and once for the New Experience — so use whichever matches your screens. The catalog setting does not change any other screen on this page.

Thrive can hold three prices for one product

For a single variant, Thrive can store:

  1. a default price — the normal selling price,

  2. a price for one location, and

  3. a price for one sales channel.

When Thrive sends a price to a sales channel it uses the first one it finds, in this order:

sales-channel price → location price → default price

So if a sales-channel price exists, changing the default price or the location price will never reach that channel.

The sales-channel price is called Integration Price in the New Experience and Adjusted price in the Old Experience. They are the same thing.

When Thrive creates one for you

If you change a price in Square, Shopify, Clover, WooCommerce or BigCommerce and import that change into Thrive, Thrive writes a sales-channel price for you whenever the price coming in is different from the price Thrive has for that location.

This is by design, to prevent overriding prices unintentionally to other locations or sales channels.

From then on, to push changes to your sales-channel, you must edit the sales-channel price itself or remove it so Thrive starts using the location or default price again.

Two things follow from it:

  • Accounts where Square manages the catalog work differently: those imports write the location price instead, so they do not leave a sales-channel price behind. See Square Hybrid Sync Overview.

  • Once a sales-channel price exists for the channel that is importing, that channel's later imports stop overwriting your Thrive default price for that variant.

Step 1 — find the sales-channel price and clear it

New Experience

  1. Go to Catalog → Products and open the product.

  2. Open the Pricing card and scroll to By Sales Integration.

  3. Look at the Integration Price column. Anything filled in there is being sent to that sales channel instead of your default price.

  4. Click Edit. The column is read-only until you do.

  5. To remove the price, clear the box and save. There is no "use the default" button — an empty box is how you clear it.

For a product with a single variant, you can also see the same value on the Integrations card, in each sales channel's section, above the line "Current price:".

Three things to know before you edit:

  • Typing 0 does not send a price of zero. Zero is treated as empty, so it clears the sales-channel price instead.

  • Turning a sales channel off for a product does not remove its price. The price stays behind, and turning the channel back on later brings the old price back with it.

  • You need both the Manage prices and the Manage integrations user permissions. Without them the field is locked and the tooltip lists both: "This requires the 'Manage prices' and 'Manage integrations' user permission".

Old Experience

  1. Go to Inventory and open the product.

  2. Open the Integrations tab and expand the sales channel's card. (The card only appears when that product is switched on for that sales channel.)

  3. In the Variant fields table, look at the Adjusted price column, next to Current price. Anything in Adjusted price is being sent to that sales channel instead of your default price.

  4. To remove it, clear the box and save.

Two things to know before you edit:

  • Typing 0 does not send a price of zero. Zero is treated as empty, so it clears the adjusted price instead.

  • The Manage prices permission on its own is not enough here. Thrive says so on the permission itself: "Allows users to change prices in the product catalog (excludes integration-specific pricing)."

Doing it for many products at once

There is a bulk sheet for these prices: Bulk Uploads → Start Bulk Upload → Edit Sales Channel Prices. On the Old Experience Products page, Actions → Bulk Upload opens the same list of sheets.

The sheet gives you a read-only Default Price column, and a Current … Price and New … Price pair for each sales channel you picked.

  • Leaving a New … Price cell blank changes nothing. It is not a way to clear the price.

  • To clear a sales-channel price, paste %REMOVE% into the New … Price cell. The sheet says so itself, next to the note "To remove a value, please copy and paste this value into the new field:".

  • The sheet only lists variants that are switched on at every sales channel you selected. Pick channels one at a time if products seem to be missing.

  • The default-price sheet will not update sales-channel specific pricing. It edits the default price and never touches a sales-channel price. It is called Edit Default Prices.

Step 2 — check the location price

If there is no sales-channel price and the price still has not moved, check the location price.

  • New Experience: the same Pricing card, By Location section. Turn the Use Defaults switch off for a location and a Location Price appears. Thrive explains the switch itself: "When switched on, all locations are locked into the same price, cost, and reorder settings. When switched off, you may override the default price with a location-specific one."

  • Old Experience: the product's Locations tab. Turn Use defaults off for a location and the per-variant Price row appears.

Two things that depend on the sales channel:

  • Shopify cannot hold different prices for the same variant at different locations. In the Old Experience, Thrive warns you about this when you set one up, and points you at the adjusted price on the Integrations tab instead.

  • If Shopify still shows the old price, open the product's Pricing card, find the location Shopify reads, turn Use Defaults off and back on, and save. That writes your default price into that location, and Shopify picks it up on the next sync.

And one that changes how far a sales-channel price reaches:

  • On Square, the sales-channel price can be different at each location.

  • On Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Clover, it is one price for the whole store.

Step 3 — push the price out

Thrive sends a saved price on its own. It queues the push a few seconds after you save, and the sending happens in the background. How soon the price arrives varies with how much else is queued. The cases where nothing is sent are listed under If the price still will not move.

If you would rather not wait, push it by hand:

  • New Experience: in Catalog → Products, open the row's menu and choose Sync to Sales Channels. On the product page itself, the overflow menu has Sync product to sales channels. You will see "Your product has been synced to your sales channels."

  • Old Experience: open the product and choose Sync product to sales channels from the gear menu. You will see "Please wait while we sync your product to all sales channels." and then "Your product has been synced to all sales channels."

On the product page, that menu item is hidden for the first ten minutes after a product is created, in both versions. The New Experience product-list row menu has no such wait.

To send everything that is waiting, use Push all un-synced products & variants on Settings → Advanced (the page is headed Advanced Settings). This only sends what Thrive has already flagged as changed — anything marked as already sent is skipped.

How long it takes: this varies with the size of your catalog and how much else is queued. A large catalog can take several hours. You can follow it on the Tasks page: click your profile picture at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Tasks. The page is headed Server Tasks.

If the price still will not move

Work down this list.

1. Product syncing is switched off for that sales channel. Nothing is sent, and the product page shows no error at all. The switch is Sync products and variants on that channel's settings page. If the switch is locked (tooltip "Contact Customer Care to change these settings"), start a chat with us.

2. The sales channel shows Disabled. While a channel is disabled nothing syncs to it. See our article on a sales channel showing Disabled for what caused it and who can turn it back on.

3. A recent sync error is holding the product back. After a sync error on a product, Thrive waits 24 hours from the last error before it tries that product again. Two things send the product anyway: saving a change to the product, and Sync product to sales channels on the product itself. Push all un-synced products & variants waits.

The Meta feed and the digital catalog work differently. They are published as a feed rather than synced product by product, and the feed does carry a price — the price stored at the location the feed reads. If one of those shows the wrong price, check that location price.

Still stuck?

Start a chat with us and include:

  • the product name and the variant,

  • the sales channel,

  • the price you expect and the price showing,

  • when you changed it, and where you changed it (in Thrive, or in the sales channel).
